Cuter each day!

Grandma Dunn and Great Grandma Turner are in Salt Lake visiting and enjoying time with Murphy. We love having extra hands around to help! Murphy had his 2 week visit and is back at birth weight 7.6 and has grown an inch and half. Each day he makes new faces, is more alert and more HUNGRY. He is also discovering his thumbs as soothing outlets and rolled over by himself for the first time. He is super busy and strong.

College choices for Murphy

Will be very difficult when the time comes as many of you know between the 2 families, we have multiple college affiliations. Western Michigan University, where Grandpa Dunn is in charge, Oregon State, Matt's school of choice, Baylor University, Grandpa Johnson's post of 35 years and BYU- my alma mater! I'll let the logo wear speak for itself as to the schools that are in lead. Thanks to Grandpa Dunn's colleagues for the WMU gear and Aunt Kerry for the OSU duds.

Great Grandma and Grandpa Johnson

Muprhy, Emily and I visited Grandma and Grandpa Johnson in Evanston, WY this weekend. They were happy to meet a 4th generation Johnson!

First 9 days of parenting

Though the pictures indicate alot of sleepy time, Murphy is certainly very attentive and alert. His big brown eyes prefer to be open between the hours of 10pm and 5am, which is taking some getting used to. Our routine is getting better and we are starting to adjust. And this adjustment also includes Harris. After initally looking for Weimeraner rescues last week (you all know i'm not serious, but was close:) he is making good progress. Harris has moved to the #2 spot and is starting to understand. He still wants to be close and by my side at all times but sees that most of my attention is with Murphy. You can see in the photo, size doesn't matter to him, he still wants to snuggle.
We've had a revolving door of visitors and helpers which has been nice. Grandma and Grandpa Johnson headed back to Texas yesterday and Emily (in DC) arrives tonight. Next week Grandma Dunn from Michigan will visit and then Amy (in Arkansas) the first weekend in September. Matt's siblings will also try and sqeeze in a visit in the coming month's (Mike in Idaho/Montana and Kerry in Portland). We have lots of family anxious to meet Murphy.

After all the advice and stories about what to expect with a new baby, nothing can really compare to experiencing it yourself. I think both Matt and I feel overwhelemed with joy, love and responsibility. We thought owning a house made us feel like grown ups, but having a baby and being mom and dad to someone is what makes you a grown up.

wishing and waiting

So we're all anxiously awaiting the arrival of little Murphy. There's been a lot of this date and then this date, etc.. but we're literally down to any day now. We're told if he doesn't come on his own this weekend, the doctor will induce on Monday. Phil and Marilyn arrived on Tuesday so it's been nice to have the grandparents here: they're just as excited as we are. We'll keep everyone posted with pics and news as the weekend unfolds. Here are a few pics from the shower that my family hosted in June...
